SHE WENT !!!!

OLIVE’S FIFTY SECOND POST
…………………..

Mike

We did it! We got to the Powerhouse Discovery Centre at Castle Hill

Here’s Katya providing the push power as we come down the ramp from Ollie’s home and….

I rode on one of those coaches to Muttaburra, Mike, when I was going to Culloden to be the station cook.

Do you see anything familiar Ollie?

Olive

What?

Mike

An old steam tram, maybe, the one we promised you?

…………………..

Olive

Is that what it is? I can’t see that well, you know, Mike.

Mike

It surely is. This one dates from the 1890s apparently, even before you were born in 1899.

I’d love to get you on board to tell the story of how Barnie was almost born on such a tram in 1920.

But I don’t see how to do it safely. The step’s too high for you.

Let’s go into the office to see the old objects they’ve got ready. There’s things for you to handle and comment on.

Olive

Don’t forget to mention the lovely cuppa they gave us and those delicious bickies

Mike

Of course not! Those were baked by Kimberly especially for you, Oll.

Olive

Really? Am I that special?

Mike

Indeed, and here’s all the staff seeing you off

…………….

………………..
Mike

That’s Eric on the left of course . He’s not staff.

After we dropped you off, I gave Katya a treat for being such a good pusher, I took her out for lunch.

The cafe decor was a bit drab but the food was delicious

Mike

Just joking. This rather amazing place is under the famous Cinema Paradiso at Ettalong. The tent-like cafe is near where we had the pies, all those months ago

Now, I’ve put this report up in a rush because lots of folks want to know if we made the outing.

Later today, I hope to post the movie clips of you explaining the various objects. You being the visiting expert on the early twentieth century, Ollie.

So , I’ll get onto that soon as I can. I have to rush off now to see about a boat.

Did I tell you I’ve been asked to present classic Aussie movies on an old ferry boat called the Banjo Paterson.

(Banjo Paterson was our famous bush poet)

The Banjo P. is doing a series of twilight cruises, starting on Dec. 28th.

I’ll provide the projector etc, and introduce the movies.

Here’s what the Banjo Paterson looks like
………………

katya-and-cat-and-flicks.jpg

As you can see, it’s going to be intimate. It’ll only take 25 movie cruisers.

We’ve managed to get Peter Weir’s classic, Picnic at Hanging Rock to start the series.

Then , we’ll have other forgotten Aussie classics like The Overlanders, you know with Chips Rafferty.

………………
Olive

Oooooah! that’s a good’un, the Overlanders!

Mike

I’m just the volunteer presenter.

So, if anyone wants to come from Boston for the evening, for a twilight movie cruise, they’ll have to talk to Anna of Hardys Bay Yacht Charters.

Neither Ollie not I can get you tickets. Anna’s tels. are 02 43601442 or 0418 262 454

And by the way, it turns out that the Powerhouse Discovery Centre is open to the public. I thought it was just a warehouse but you can go on certain days.

So, if anybody wants to visit, they can get onto the web site, send an email, and see how to do it.

    Hello Olive,
Your trip to the museum where my Auntie Kelly works looks like fun. My Auntie Kelly told me about your blog and my Mummy and I have had a great time reading it and looking at the photos.

    From Abigail

Hi Abigail, I think you are the youngest person to send us a message. I’m so glad you did. Ollie will be tickled too. Imagine, you are 103 years younger than her. Isn’t that amazing. Mike the helper

    Hello Olive,

I love museums. They are a link to the past, and I love history. I am so glad you enjoyed your visit to the Discover Center at Castle Hill and can’t wait to see the videos. Thanks also to Mike for all your hard work maintaining the blob.

    Take Care,
    John

Oh, well done, Olive. I’m so glad you decided to go on your trip. I remember my grandmother had some scales like the ones you’re holding…that brought back some memories!

Mike, I love the decor of that cafe…isn’t it amazing?

If I don’t get back to visit…a very happy Christmas to you, Olive, and also to you and Katya, Mike. And thank you for telling us all about Olive throughout the year.

    Take care.

I’m so glad that Ollie went on the outing today! I look forward to seeing the videos describing all the stuff you saw.

Mike, the movies on the boat idea sounds really neat! If by some chance I ever make it to Australia I would definately have to check it out!

    Happy Holidays!

Mike, I’ve been waiting all day to see if Ollie made it to Castle Hill. How exciting, and wasn’t Kimberly kind to bake biscuits? Katya deserved her special lunch, shame about the dull decor, LOL!! My mum is still talking about Ollie’s movie shown on ABC TV, she was really quite moved by it. Thanks so much for the update, looking forward to further installments.
    Hooroo,
    Christine in Sydney.

Olive, I really enjoy your ‘blob.’ Your enthusiasm is very contagious and delightful.

My mother is 95 years old. I showed her some of your clips and she got a kick out of it. Mom grew up as a member of the Old Order Amish religion which shuns a lot of modern things. She used a kitchen stove very much like the one where you washed the baby. She used and remembers a lot of the things you saw at the museum.

Thanks and God Bless You. Jonas

PS: There is a lot of my family history on my blog if your readers are interested. JJB
