Mike

The singing is going well.

katya and I have been practicing Eidelweiss and Goodnight sweetheart.

I’m getting a bit more confident. We’ve had two lessons with Christina so far.

Olive

And I want a song book!

Mike

I’ll get them here to read it to me.

Apparently Matryoshkas are not an ancient craft as you’d think.
Katya tells Ollie the true story.
She’s so sweet telling it.

She’s just like those Russian school Marms we remember (not) from childhood

Apart from that, I’m presenting Aussie films every Thursday night on the old ferry, The Banjo Paterson. sailing out of Hardys bay

Two nights to go before we close for the season

Sadly, I can’t get Ollie on board. She doesn’t feel safe getting on boats, I find.

Here’s our poster for the Floating Flicks series.

And this is what it looks like on board as the evening draws nigh and we begin the show.

We only take 25

As darkness falls, the Banjo’s screen glows bright and we slip into in our cocoon of film and night.

When fully dark, the lights of Hardy’s Bay move gently from side to side beyond the stern while the screen pulses slightly in the evening breeze, as if breathing.

I am a new viewer to Ollie’s site. She is a true inspiration to all of us as we age. I love the story of the Matryoshkas. Thank You for sharing your life with all of us.

Cindy, a new viewer and the first to comment. Welcome and thanks, Mike the helper

I too am relatively new to Ollie’s story. I’m trying to go back and read all the older posts and keep up with the new too. Thanks ever so much for all the work, it is a bright spot of any day to see what you’ve added here. God bless.

I love to hear the stories whether they are Ollies or Mike’s or whomever’s! I’ve learned so much by just reading these “blobs”! I know a little different verson of Joy in My Heart, but I don’t have the personal courage to share my horrilbe singing voice with everyone!

One of my favorite songs of all time is Edelweiss (I believe it’s one of the songs of the week this week?) Anyhoo…that song ALWAYS tears me up! We were just down in Garmisch-Pirtenkirchen and then went to Innsbruck Austria. It was so very beautiful!

Thanks, Erin. Now, I must hurry to practice for today’s singing lesson. Mike the helper

Mike - it’s great that you and Katya can enjoy Christine’s singing lessions together. Singing is something I miss very much - wonder if my croaky voice would come back again? I always love to hear Olive sing. Will you sing again soon Ollie, please?
Katya telling the story of the matryoshka dolls is very special - I’d never heard of their origin before, and always called them babushkas.

I’ve had a question for Olive for a while now …
please Olive, could you tell us about the home remedies that you used? I remember my Mum using bread poultices for inflammation, and a piece of flannel soaked in vinegar round a sore throat; also honey and lemon for coughs. You must have known many more though.

Hi Mike and Ollie. I enjoyed the post about singing, but that Church song was new to me. Isn’t the power of singing amazing, though? I watched the Edmund Hilary service live on the computer the other day and cried everytime they sang! Even the Lord’s Prayer made me howl. Perhaps it was the occassion, or perhaps knowing all the words and singing silently along had an effect on me. Not sure, but I do know that the songs from Sound of Music and other musical movies have an uplifting effect too. Pavarotti’s voice always made me tingle then cry when I heard him. Gosh, gone all sentimental now, LOL, but it does you good doesn’t it?
Good luck with the singing lessons, it’s been a secret wish of mine too, along with learning to swim properly. Not sure if you can teach an old dog new tricks though.
    Hooroo,
    Christine in sunny Sydney.

Christine, the singing lessons are going surprisingly well. Katya is with me and she’s pitch perfect which helps. But I find I’m beginning to be able to find pitch a lot of the time and really enjoying learning songs off by heart, which seems to be the first step to confidence for me. Mike the Helper

How funny! The video clip, that is. I am so thrilled that Olive is still “blobbing”! Off to share with others…

You’re right Mike, Katya told the story about these little dolls so sweetly. I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Ross and I also watched the YouTube video of you telling about the hidden village, and found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing that story.
